Practitioner MCE Requirements
The following requirements have been established for maintaining continuing education. Please consult the Guide to Maintaining Your Certification for additional information on this program.
Single Discipline (CP or CO) Practitioners:
A total of 75 credits must be earned during the five year cycle of each time limited certificate for the single discipline practitioner.
At least 50 of the required credits must be earned as Category I Scientific.
Business credits may be earned in Category I or Category II. However, they may not exceed 25 and can not be counted toward satisfying the required 50 Category I Scientific credits.
All credits may be earned in Category I. However, a maximum of 25 credits during each five-year period may be earned in Category II and/or Business.
Dual Discipline (CPO) Practitioners:
A total of 100 credits must be earned during the five year cycle of each time limited certificate for the dual discipline practitioner.
At least 75 of the required credits must be earned as Category I Scientific.
Business credits may be earned in Category I or Category II. However, they may not exceed 25 and can not be counted toward satisfying the required 75 Category I Scientific credits.
When extending credential (from CO or CP to CPO), the most recent certification year will determine the MCE effective date. For example, if orthotic certification was awarded in 2008 and prosthetic certification was awarded in 2009, the MCE effective date will be 2009.
Failure to Satisfy the MCE Requirements
The credential of individuals failing to comply with the continuing education requirements by the end of their five-year cycle will be suspended for up to one year.
ABC will notify practitioners of deficient credits and impending suspension via certified letter. Following receipt of notification of impending suspension, practitioners will be required to notify ABC via certified letter within 30 days of their intent to earn the deficient PCEs, plus an additional 30 penalty PCEs within the current calendar year, of which 20 must be Category I Scientific credits. Failure to provide ABC with this notice of intent may result in revocation of certification.
During suspension, individuals are not permitted to use the ABC certification title or number, will not receive complimentary publications, nor will they be included in the online directory. During suspension, annual renewal fees are temporarily waived.
