ABC Board of Directors Transitions into the New Year
ABC announces the transition of its Board of Directors for 2011. At its September 28th meeting in Orlando, Fla., the board elected one new board member and elected others for continued service. The following individuals were elected to the Executive Committee—Donald D. Virostek, CPO, President Elect and Timothy E. Miller, CPO, Secretary Treasurer. D. Deane Doty, Jr., CPO becomes the Immediate Past President. Those members continuing their service for ABC include Robert S. Lin, CPO, FAAOP, past president of ABC who will fulfill his term on the board for 2011 as a director, and Denise J. Janisse, C.Ped., who was elected for an additional term as a director. ABC also welcomes James H. Wynne, CPO, FAAOP to the board.
Donald D. Virostek, CPO of Dallas, Tex. has served on the ABC Board of Directors for the past four years. He was elected to the position of Secretary-Treasurer for the remainder of the 2010 term after the passing of Todd F. Anderson, CP, FAAOP. Virostek was also chosen as President Elect for the 2010-2011board term. Virostek began volunteering with ABC as an examiner and has been instrumental in writing and developing all aspects of the practitioner credentialing exams over the past 12 years. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the ABC board and look forward to working with all of the other dedicated board members and staff to advance the mission of ABC,” stated Virostek. Virostek has worked for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children for 15 years and has served as the hospital’s Director of Orthotics for the past four years.
Timothy E. Miller, CPO of Bettendorf, Iowa, was elected Secretary Treasurer. Miller has been volunteering with ABC for many years in numerous capacities. He has served as an orthotic, prosthetic, and technician examiner, exam team member, chair for several ABC exam and certification committees, and has written key components of the written and written simulation exams. Miller has close to 30 years of experience in the O&P profession and owns Miller-Meier Limb and Brace, Inc.
Donald Deane Doty, Jr., CPO of Albuquerque, N. Mex. will continue on the ABC board as Immediate Past President. Doty joined the board of directors in 2005 and has-been an active ABC volunteer for many years as an examiner, site coordinator, candidate liaison, and CPM Exam Chairman. In addition to his service with ABC, Doty also brings with him 30 years of experience working in the orthotics and prosthetics profession. Currently, Doty serves as President and Clinical Specialist of Active Life, Inc., which includes three facilities purchased from Doty by his sons in 2004. “Looking forward into 2011, I see an ABC focused upon its mission, vision, and strategies,” said Doty. “Our reestablishment of our Certified Assistant credential, expansion of our Certified Technician examination, and continued support for the profession’s move to a Master’s degree keeps ABC in a strong position to advance the O&P profession.”
Robert S. Lin, CPO, FAAOP of Hartford, Conn. and Past President of the ABC board will finish his term as a director. Lin has contributed many years to ABC as both a volunteer and committee member. He began his service with ABC as an orthotic examiner and has been instrumental in O&P educational development by chairing several ABC exam committees and serving as Commissioner for the National Commission for Orthotic Prosthetic Education (NCOPE). Lin is currently the Chief Pediatric Orthotist/Prosthetist for Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Additionally, Lin is a faculty member and Program Director for Newington Certificate Program in Orthotics and Prosthetics in Newington, Conn.
Dennis J. Janisse, C.Ped. of Milwaukee, Wisc. has served on the ABC Board of Directors since 2007 and has been elected to an additional term. Janisse is the President and CEO of National Pedorthic Services, Inc., a national network of full-service pedorthic facilities with eight locations. In addition to his duties at NPS, Janisse is a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Director of Pedorthic Education for P.W. Minor & Son. He also teaches at Northwestern University Medical School and the Medical College of Wisconsin, and has written extensively on all aspects of pedorthics, with over 50 publications to his credit.
James H. Wynne, CPO, FAAOP of Avon, Mass. joins the board with a considerable amount of experience in the O&P profession. Wynne received his orthotic and prosthetic education from Northwestern University and was certified by ABC in 1991. Since then, Wynne has served on the ABC Facility Accreditation committee and has been instrumental in providing continuing education for O&P. Today, Wynne is the Vice President, Director of Education and Resident Director for Boston Brace and the National Orthotic Prosthetic Company.
